SLIDE / LECTURE PROGRAMS

The following Slide/Lecture Programs are available from the Cayuga Museum

Theodore Case and the Case Research Laboratory

The story of Theodore Case and the ground-breaking work done at the Case Research Lab – the birthplace of talking movies.  28 slides from historic photographs in the collection of the Cayuga Museum.

Creating a Community Portrait

These 24 slides from the exhibit which celebrated the last turn of the century in Cayuga County reflect on changes over the past 200 years.  Changes in People’s Lives, Changes in Technology, and Preserving our History for future generations are a few of the themes explored in these images.

Cayuga County

A brief overview of county history, from Iroquois to the present.  Themes include agriculture, industry, transportation, social movements and changing perspectives.

Fort Hill Cemetery

Fort Hill Cemetery, which opened on a former Indian site in Auburn in 1852, is a leading example of the rural cemetery movement in America.  The permanent resting place of many of Auburn’s most prominent citizens, including William H. Seward and Harriet Tubman, Fort Hill remains a lovely and peaceful oasis in the midst of the city.

Historic Auburn

Sadly, many of the buildings so familiar to past Auburn residents are gone now.  These 38 slides recall the Auburn of the past, and explore the price of progress.

Emerson Park:  Owasco Lake’s Coney Island

For decades, the land at the head of Owasco Lake (presently Cayuga County’s Emerson Park) was the site of not one, but two popular amusement parks.  These 29 slides trace the development of the amusement parks, with images familiar to many senior citizens.

Most presentations will take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on audience comments.  If desired, two programs can be shown on one date.

A $50 fee per presentation will help defray Museum expenses.  Museum lecturer will bring a slide projector, but site must provide a screen or blank wall upon which to project images.

Call the Museum at 315 253-8051 to schedule a presentation for your organization.
