Enjoy the spectacular views and tranquility of Sterling Creek as you canoe between Cayuga County's Sterling Nature Center and Fair Haven State Park!
The Nature Center's launch enters the Creek's East Branch, whereas the State Park's launch enters Sterling Pond.Sterling Creek winds through a wildlife-rich cattail marsh surrounded by forest and farmland. Some of the many animal species you may encounter include Red-Tailed Hawks, Great Blue Herons, Green Herons, Canadian Geese, turtles, ducks and frogs - so bring sure to bring your binoculars! The water conditions are generally flat; however, if there is a wind you may discover an easier paddle from Fair Haven State Park to Sterling Nature Center. Along the way you will pass through two culverts - one at Farden Road and another at McIntyre Road. During average or low water levels, you will easily pass through both; however, you may have to portage around the culverts at McIntyre if the water level is high. |
