Users must pay for parking stickers at Emerson Park located just down the road. Call 315-253-5611 for more information. (The Owasco River Outlet Boat Launch at Emerson Park offers an alternative access point onto the Lake.) Owasco Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, is located entirely within Cayuga County. The City of Auburn is situated at the northern end of the lake, and the Town of Moravia at the southern end. The lake is 17 miles long, has a surface area of 6600 acres, and a maximum depth of 177 feet. It is the source of drinking water for the City of Auburn and several surrounding municipalities. There are numerous recreational opportunities along Owasco Lake for the outdoor enthusiast. Emerson Park (north end of the lake) offers a wide range of attractions to the public, including the nationally-acclaimed Merry-Go-Round Playground productions, weekly summer concerts, swimming, picnicking and fishing. NYS DEC stocks the lake with Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Landlocked Salmon and Walleye. The lake also provides habitat for Black Bass, Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Large- and Small-Mouth Bass, Bullhead, and Perch - so bring your fishing poles! Additionally, the Great Race, perhaps the largest team triathlon event in the United States, begins and ends on the shores of Owasco Lake. This race includes either a two-or four-mile canoe leg out onto the waters of the lake, a running leg and a biking leg. |
