Groundbreaking for Auburn Schine Theater
15th September 1938
1:00 PM Grand Opening Following "Pageant of Progress" parade
First film: "Four's A Crowd" Errol Flynn & Olivia DeHavilland
July 1941
Antitrust lawsuit against Schine chain.
1965
Schine Brothers sold the Auburn Theater.
Panther Theaters, and later Galaxy Theaters operated the moviehouse.
13th April 1978
Theater closed as a moviehouse.
Last film shown was "Madam Kitty" (Rated X)
31st May 1978
Purchased by Pentagon Realty
1978  - 1980
Operated as "Auburn Music Hall"
Fall 1980
Removed rear seats (Under the balcony) and installed a Bar
19th December 1980
Opened as "Charlie's" Night club (Charlie Chaplin theme)
Live bands on stage
Spring 1981
Removed front rows of seats to extend the stage and build a dance floor.
8th March 1985
Charlie's closes after blowing out the electrical system during a Bellamy Brothers concert.
1986
"Who's On First" video store opens in lobby of theater. Auditorium is sealed off and abandoned. During this time the roof leaks and eventually caves in. Busts, Clock and various lighting fixtures are removed and presumably sold.
June 1992
Video store closes.
July 1992 - August 1994
"Make It Schine" group forms, and tries to save the theater.
April - June 1993
Chicago architect Daniel Coffey conducts public survey and economic feasibility study of the Theater and other buildings for the Auburn Industrial Development Authority.
August 1994
Wegmans supermarket places purchase offer on theater to expand their parking lot. Pentagon Realty obtains demolition permit.
December 1994
Wegmans declines purchase option on theater in response to public outcry.
Nov. 1994 - August 1996
Auburn Cinephile Society and Cayuga County Arts Council work to save the theater.
1996
Cayuga County Arts Council is awarded $88,000 grant from state Environmental Bond Act, for purchase and stabilization of the theater.
3rd February 1998
Arts Council purchases the theater.
15th September 1998
60th anniversary celebration. "Four's a Crowd" (First film shown at the Schine) is screened at local church followed by gala reception.
Renee Schine Crown, (Daughter of J. Myer Schine) donates $25,000.
September 1998
State grant for $228,000
Fall 1998
New rubber roof installed and masonry repairs begin.
October 1999
HUD Grant for $138,000 from Congressman Walsh
December 1999
Auburn Schine Theater is listed as an American Treasure by Hillary Rodham Clinton's Save America's Treasures project.
Spring 2000
Auburn Schine Theater listed on National Register of Historic Places
Summer - Fall 2000
Masonry work on front facade
February 2001
Senator Nozolio presents grant for $100,000
September 2001
2nd grant from Crown foundation $10,000
Winter - Spring 2002
New roofs on Marquee and dressing room area, new drainage system and underground water leaks repaired.
2004
$250,000 HUD Special Projects Grant - Secured by US Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer.
